What to do when the power goes out? In my case today, the answer was simple: draw something! I had already started this piece but had been putting off finishing it. Today, there were no excuses left - and little else I could do! Good thing I have a large window and lots of California sunshine!
This is a drawing of the table and chairs on my patio. (And some fictitious geraniums thrown in for good measure. There is a pot of geraniums there, but they all died some time ago)
When I first started drawing all this, I was just going to do a very simple line drawing in pen and ink. I don't know what happened, but it seemed to take on a life of it's own!
I drew this using markers and coloured pencils. So many times while drawing it, I was convinced I had ruined it. I almost tore it up more than once. But I was determined to save it, and through the use of some judicious stippling, I believe I did.
It's funny - this drawing makes it look like I live in a jungle! But that's really what my patio looks like.
I like it! It really captures the patio/garden very nicely and the detail is amazing. Excellent piece...

ReplyDeleteI really like your work it's awesome! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone, I'm glad you like it. I like it much better myself now that it's done and posted - while I was working on it, I wasn't quite so keen! But it does look lovely now, doesn't it?
