Arlington House

Pictured here is a drawing in pen and ink of the house I grew up in. It is located in Arlington ,Massachusetts on top of a great hill, similar to those found in San Francisco.

My first school lay at the very bottom of the street, and so from the age of five until I was twelve, I faced a mighty climb back home every day. Probably why I was so skinny. My mother lived in fear of it in the winter time, as trying to drive down the icy hill would often find her car slipping backwards or sideways into a tree! This was one of the reasons she gave for her move to a warmer climate and flat roads.

I think of this house often, and even though I moved from there over twenty years ago, I visit it nightly and walk through its many rooms in my dreams and nightmares!

  1. That would be your room in the front-right, second floor, correct?

  2. Sorry to disappoint my friend - the middle window and the far right window on the front are actually my parent's bedroom. Mine was in back,(unseen)facing the back yard. (The window on the front far left is, or was my father's 'studio' where he had his drawing table, airbrush tank and art supplies)

  3. I could've sworn your window overlooked the street. Alas! Memory fails!

  4. Don't worry about it. I'll be drawing much more of that old house I'm sure, including the inside. Once you see more, I'm sure it'll all come back to you. Anyway, as I remember, we spent most of our time down in the basement honing our guitar skills, trying to be rock stars! : )
